Poppin' Words Word Wall Pack

November 12, 2012
"Popcorn" words are high frequency words that "pop" up frequently in books and print materials. These words typically don't follow common spelling patterns and rules, so they might be a little harder for students to remember. I've created this set to use as a word wall to help my students with these high frequency words.

Currently...November

November 3, 2012
I am linking up with the Fabulous Farley from Oh' Boy 4th Grade!

I can't believe November is already here! I am having panic attacks about Christmas shopping. I HATE, HATE, HATE long lines, crowds, and crazy fights in stores. That means I better get a movin' on my shopping!

I also play a lot of classical music in my classroom. I read reports a long time ago while student teaching {a very long time ago, I might add} that it helps kids become smarter. HA! not sure if it does, but it does calm my kids down so it works for me!

Do you like the font I used? If so check out Teri's blog for a free download. It's called Cupcake Sweet. Thanks Teri!!

Happy November Everyone!

Storing My Read- Alouds

November 2, 2012
I love picture books! What teacher doesn't?! And I have to admit I've spent a pretty penny on my collection. I wanted to become a librarian at one point- but the certification in my district is just insane. Too many courses- way to expensive on a teacher salary :(

Anyway, I saw these durable clear bins at Home Depot and knew they would be perfect for me to stack my books in. After a couple days hours I finally finished organizing my collection.

Missing from this picture are my Community Workers, Transportation, Fall & Thanksgiving books.

It's important to note that these are the books that are NOT included in my classroom library. These are my read- aloud  books that I use when I do my themes. A lot of them are hard cover books that I've invested in. I do try to purchase soft cover doubles that will go in my classroom library though. I also offer incentives to my students who can earn a chance to get a book from "Mrs. M's special collection".

I display the books here, in a little corner near my desk- our theme at this time was colors.

How do you store your special books? I'd love to hear about it :)

Have a Great Weekend!
