1st Grade Common Core Workbook & Giveaway Winner

September 16, 2012
Have you seen this fabulous resource? I first heard about it from Fran over at Kindergarten Crayons. As soon as I checked it out I knew I had to have it. I've always been one to "work smarter, not harder", and trust me, I hate having to reinvent the wheel. This product was perfect for me.

No more scrambling, or spending countless hours searching for items aligned with the common core standards. I love how the pages list the standard at the bottom of the page so when I send sheets home for homework parents can see that we are working on our standards.

I purchased the Kindergarten workbook, and now I want the First Grade workbook in order to differentiate instruction for my students that are ready for some first grade curriculum.

The First Grade workbook has 550 pages! The graphics are kid friendly and the centers are easy to use.  If your state has yet to adopt the CCSS, what better way to get started and familiarize yourself with the standards!!

Click on the picture to purchase your set! Let me know what you think :)

Congratulations to Katie from the Resource(ful) Room for being the lucky winner of my $20 Oh' So Random Giveaway!

Thank- you so much to those of you who took the time to enter. I had a lot of fun with this giveaway.

Here's my "Oh So Random"...wait for it....

I am ADDICTED to little note pads & post-its!! LOL!
Yikes! I just picked up a few at Target's Dollar Bin the other day.
I also came across some really neat post-its with sight words printed on them- have you seen these?
Or am I just the last to know? I can't wait to share them with you :)

FREE Bully Free Zone Classroom Posters

September 15, 2012
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. I made these posters for my classroom in honor of that. I want to encourage my students to STOMP out bullying, remember to tell an adult if they or someone they know is being bullied. and to always treat others the way they would want to be treated.

There are 6 posters in all. Head on over to my Teachers Pay Teachers store to download your free copy.

Remembering 9/11

September 11, 2012

I am linking up with Erica from Erica Bohrer's First Grade to show you an easy peasy 9/11 activity I did with my little ones.

We started off by watching this clip from brainpop.com. My little ones had tons of questions, so I did the best I could to answer them. A very difficult lesson indeed.

I became a bit choked up as I started to answer their innocent questions (every year, never fails). As they saw my eyes water they became increasingly quiet. Something inside them told them this was serious. And very real.

I didn't want to scare them or get too deep into the topic so I quickly jumped to how cool soldiers are for protecting us from something terrible like this ever happening again.

And sure enough each one of them started raising their hands saying "My daddy is a solider", "My mommy is a soldier", or "My uncle is in the Army", and "My grandpa was in the war too".

After getting them back on track we practiced singing "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood for our Patriot Day Assembly. We also reviewed some flag facts using this resource. We've been working on shapes & colors so this activity tied in perfectly with our shapes unit. I gave them a rectangle pattern and had them trace and cut it onto gray paper to make the World Trade Center.

The one on the right went a little overboard there :)

We also made these simple flags. The boys used a star while the girls used a heart. I pre- cut the pieces for them and the heart & star came from this unit.

God Bless America. Land of the Free. Home of the Brave.

An "Oh So Random" $20 Giveaway!

September 8, 2012
I am beyond thrilled to announce that my blog makeover is finally complete. It's definitely been a long road (I blame my OCD...lol).

Two weeks after my last makeover (I know, I know) I came across The Bubbly Blonde's new design and it was love at first sight. I knew I had to work with the wonderful person behind her design. Before that, I spent countless hours scouring the web for blog designers.

Each time I found a designer I liked, they either had a mile long wait list, or the price was just way out of my price range- some costing as much as $300! YIKES!!!  Teri was perfect. Each time there was something I didn't like she was very quick to change it. She is very patient, very kind, and very affordable. She is also a teacher! How cool is that?

We must have sent 50+ emails back and forth.
I highly recommend you hop on over to her blog and check her out ;-)

Ok. Enough of my ramblings- so in celebration of this very long road coming to an end. I'd like to throw a fun giveaway.

You don't have to blog about this giveaway, follow my blog, my pinterest boards, or my fb page (though I would love if you do...hahaha).

Some ideas are; what grade you teach, how many students you have, what state/ country you teach in, how long you've been teaching, what your favorite children's book or professional development book is, your favorite subject to teach, a funny story, something crazy your students have said, or something on your bucket list.

Tell me ANYTHING. Just have fun with it!! One comment only per person. Additional comments will be deleted.

Currently...September

September 2, 2012
I'm linking up with Farley from Oh' Boy 4th Grade! I'm totally loving the colors for this month!

Since school started two weeks ago for me, I have been loving Fridays, Weekends, & of course Holidays. I must say though, I have a good bunch this year, in comparison to last year {knock on wood!!}. It's taking us a while to get use to the routine and I still have two criers, but once they can down pact our rules and routines, I know it'll be smooth sailing from here on out. Crossing my fingers & toes too!!

P.S. my blog design is alllmoosssttt done, I am really excited. Very minor tweaking, poor Terri, she must hate me! LOL! I'm not that difficult trust me, I blame my OCD. Stay tuned for my giveaway to celebrate :)

Have a great Labor Day friends!!
