Back to Reality II & New Year's Party Kids Glyph

January 5, 2012
It's great to read about everyone's first day back. Some of you had an awesome first day and some of you, not so awesome. My apologies to Karen over at A little Kinder told me so ~ unfortunately her class was broken into.

So in getting back to my trainwreck awesome first day, at the start of the day I only had 8 of my sweeties show up out of 21. Slowly but surely they all started trickling in one by one. Around 8:15 am one of my sweeties threw up on the floor and I could not locate a janitor for the life of me. My little weak stomach was in pain. After an eternity 10 minutes of making phone calls to the office, it was finally cleaned up.

To make matters worse, my kids were so CHATTY! I mean, they are normally chatty but once I start moving their pin "Below the Line" {behavior system created by Corwin Kronenberg} they tend to calm down. But not today.

NOTHING WAS WORKING- so as I began to pull my hair out one by one, our lovely secretary walks in with a brand spankin' new student. Now normally I have it under control but today I was being pushed to my limits. I managed to somehow calm my kids for a nanosecond and bring the newbie to his seat while forgetting to give his dad a "new student packet & school handbook"...can I get an UGH??!!

My kiddos finally calmed down after lunch and I was able to get some New Year's activities in. We worked on my New Year's Party Hat Sequencing activity {find it here} and a New Year's glyph which we didn't fully complete because we had a birthday party for one of my sweeties.

I was so proud of their coloring!

really proud!!

Now onto our Glyph! Really fun & easy to do. I try not to pre- cut everything for the kids ~ after all it is their work their parents want to see and not mine right? So what I do instead is make patterns of the shapes and have them trace, cut, and assemble it by themselves {more on this later}. Tiny & intricate pieces I will pre- cut for them though, otherwise they will butcher the paper and it just won't come out right :P

Here's our New Year's Kids Glyph
{were not completely done- just need to add hands}

* Girls wore a pretty party dress & pretty sandals*

*Boys wore "Pete the Cat" inspired shoes. I traced them and let the kids color & cut them*

*If you stayed up on New Year's until midnight you had stripes on your party hat. If you went to bed early you had polka dots on your hat*

* If New Year's is your favorite holiday you had a silver star. If it is not you had a blue star *

More pictures...

and more {sorry I couldn't resist}

isn't she precious?

my kids kept saying this boy looks like a wizard

*If you are afraid of fireworks you had straight arms & legs, if you are not afraid of fireworks your arms & legs were folded*

Happy New Year!! From my class to yours...
